05. informal feminist library
informal feminist library is an independent library dedicated to intersectional queer, decolonial and feminist perspectives on art, crafts and design.
Initiated in 2020 in Eindhoven, the library has known various locations in Eindhoven and Berlin, following its librarian through her various working spaces. The library is currently moving spaces, more news coming up soon!
Constituted of more than 120 books, it is a collection of publications (art books, essays, short stories, novels, comics and zines) about art, feminism, queer theory, decolonialism, crafts and design. The books are available for consultation on site during dedicated open days.
It is all at once a private collection gone public, an easy access to feminist, queer and decolonial writings about art, and a big question mark on what is official and what is informal.
ifl’s adage is best expressed by the adjectives that describe what the library aims to be :
informal: the library is a fluid space, in constant change, freely curated by the librarian’s current readings and projects.
communal: the books are available to consult on site, and the library’s members are welcome to spend time in the library for their research.
inclusive: the library is an open space for anyone to come in and read, discuss or have a cup of coffee.
critical: the library is the host to a number of events involving exhibitions, talks and workshops.
inspiring: the library proves that everyone can be a librarian and that the act of sharing knowledge starts where we want it to.
